How to avoid windows updates that recognises Non-Genuine Office software |
 Applies to Microsoft Office 2003 and 2007 |
| 1st Step:
Turn off Automatic Update from downloading and installing automatically: 1) Click on Start 2) Select Control Panel 3) Click on Automatic Updates 4) Select "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them" 5) Click on Apply> then Click Ok 6) Close Control Panel |
| Note: After the 1st Step above is completed, you will need to keep an eye out for Windows Update messages advising you that there are Windows Updates are available to download and install. |
2nd Step: 1) Click on the message that says "Windows updates are available to download and install" 2) When a dialog box comes up: Select "Custom" installation"> Click Next 3) This will display a list of Windows updates that are available to download 4) Double Click on the Windows Update that says: "Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) en-us" 5) Untick the box next "Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) en-us" 6) Click Ok 7) A message will come up asking are you sure you dont want this update installed... 8) Tick the box next to "Do not show these updates again" 9) Click Ok 10) Continue to install the other Windows Updates that are available to download and install as you wish 11) Follow the Microsoft Windows Update page instructions after the installation of updates to Restart pc or Close page after the installations, etc.. |
| Manually downloading updates - and avoiding downloading the update that recognises Non-Genuine Office software:
1) Click on Start 2) Click on "All Programs" 3) At the top of the list of programs: Select "Windows Update" 4) When Microsoft Windows Update Page loads..there will two options: "Express" installation or "Custom" installation 5) Select "Custom" installation - this way you know exactly what updates you are installing on your pc 6) When the next page loads - this will show a list of updates that are available for you to download and install 7) Untick the box next "Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) en-us" 8) Install other Windows Updates as you wish - keeping an eye and making sure the above update is not in the list of updates that is going to download or install 9) Follow the Microsoft Windows Update page instructions after the installation of updates to Restart pc or Close page after the installations, etc... |
